In the Beginning was the Face

"We see what we want to see, because it fits our preconceived notions of life and because we have learned to see or are told to see by our family or culture. It’s especially true of today's digital age the importance of face-to-face communication seems to be fading, as one can go almost an entire day without actually seeing each other during communication. Think about the link between emotions and expressions. Body language is a mix of gestures, postures, and expressions. We can use it to improve our understanding of other people and to engage with them positively. Body language is an important part of communication. A person's body language can reveal a lot about what they're thinking and feeling. That's especially true if their nonverbal displays don't match. Perception of thoughts and feelings can. Non-verbal cues are just as crucial when communicating as the words we say. Everything from body language and facial expressions to attentiveness and engagement can indicate different thoughts and feelings – each of which can only truly be observed through face-to-face communication … When you see the way that the person you are talking to reacts, you are able to better understand how they are feeling. One of the benefits of face-to-face communication is the live feedback translated through the body language and facial expressions. Other forms of communication can never provide that advantage. You will find a video in the references, and while the video is old, the message has not changed the way our body language and thoughts are reflected on our faces.
